The Norwegian School of Management, founded in 1943, is now Norway's largest educational institution within the fields of management, economics and business administration.

In 1988, NSM moved to the newly built campus in Sandvika, just 20 minutes from downtown Oslo. In addition to Sandvika, NSM also has a network of 13 regional business colleges strategically located throughout Norway.

As a self-governing, private institution of higher education (receiving less than 15 percent state funding), operating costs are primarily covered by tuition fees and supplemented by generous endowments.

Due to the democratic foundation of NSM, both faculty and research staff are able to exert considerable influence on the executive governing bodies.

The current president of the school was appointed for a four-year term by a committee made up of students, faculty and staff. The President, Leif Frode Onarheim, one of Norway's leading industrialists, holds the title of Chief Academic and Administrative Executive.
